Why We Need Your Support
The Heterocosmic Museum of Art operates without public funding. Every work in this collection — every canvas crossed from another universe into ours, every artist's alternate biography researched and documented, every universe mapped in sufficient depth to make acquisition possible — has been made possible by private support. That is not a complaint. It is a fact we state plainly, so that you understand what your contribution does.
Acquisition is the most resource-intensive part of what we do. Before a single work enters the collection, the research team has spent months — sometimes years — documenting the universe of origin: its divergence point, its art history, its cultural context, the specific biography of the artist whose work we intend to acquire. The technology that makes the transfer itself possible is proprietary and in continuous development. None of this is inexpensive. None of it can be rushed without compromising the quality of the work that results.
Beyond acquisition, your support sustains the museum's research programme, its documentation of newly identified universes, the conservation of works already in the collection, and the curatorial work of contextualising each acquisition within the broader history of its world of origin. This last activity — the writing, the scholarship, the slow work of making these paintings legible to visitors from our timeline — is, we believe, as important as the acquisition itself. A painting without context is an object. With it, it becomes a window.
We are a small institution. We intend to remain one. We are not building an empire of parallel-universe art; we are building a collection of exceptional works, selected slowly and deliberately, each one chosen because it could not have been made in any other universe and could not have reached us by any other means. Your support helps us do this without compromise.
A Note of Thanks
The museum opened because a small number of people believed it should exist before there was any evidence that it could. Their support in the founding years — when there was no collection to visit, no building to enter, no proof that any of this was possible — made everything that followed possible. We do not publish their names without permission. We remember them in every acquisition.
