Mark Z. Danielewski
American / British (adopted) · Game Developer · 1966
In Earth-557, Mark Z. Danielewski was born in New York in 1966. His father abandoned a directing career in 1972 after encountering ARPANET-connected text games at MIT, and spent the following years in software development. Mark grew up with terminals rather than film sets. He studied Computer Science at Caltech, moved to Cambridge in 1993, and founded Orbital Text Software in 1994. His first release, The Staircase (1995), sold eighty-three copies. House (1999) is considered the founding work of the Textual Horror movement. He has made three games since. All of them are surveys of one kind or another.
